How to calculate your Academic GPA

Calculating your GPA (Grade Point Average) involves some simple steps and formulas, but the specifics can vary slightly depending on your institution's grading system and credit hour weightings. Here's a general approach that you can adapt:

1. Gather your grades and credits:

Make a list of all the courses you've taken in the relevant term or semester.
For each course, note down the letter grade you received and the corresponding credit hours it was worth.

2.Convert letter grades to numerical values:

Most institutions assign numerical values to letter grades, like:

A = 4.0
B = 3.0
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0.0
Check your institution's grading system or handbook for the exact values used.

3. Calculate quality points for each course:

Multiply the numerical grade value by the credit hours for each course. This gives you the quality points earned in that course.

4. Calculate total quality points and credits

:

Add up the quality points and credits earned from all your courses.

5. Calculate your GPA:

Divide the total quality points by the total credits. This final number is your GPA!

Example:

Suppose you took these courses in a semester:

Course 1: B+ (3.33 points) x 4 credits = 13.32 quality points
Course 2: A- (3.67 points) x 3 credits = 11.01 quality points
Course 3: C (2.0 points) x 2 credits = 4.00 quality points
Total quality points = 13.32 + 11.01 + 4.00 = 28.33
Total credits = 4 + 3 + 2 = 9

GPA = 28.33 quality points / 9 credits = 3.15

Remember:

This is a general example, and your institution might have slight variations in calculations.
Consult your institution's academic advisor or handbook for specific guidance on GPA calculation.
